Dashcam Recommendations

When choosing a new dashcam we have a few suggestions on what features a dashcam should have to make it easier for reporting unsafe drivers.

For capturing video footage of unsafe drivers, we recommend these features:

  1. Event Lock Button

Find a dashcam with a lock / event button for easy saving.  This allows you to save the current footage to a favorites folder.   These Dashcam cameras usually save videos in 1,3 or 5 min videos.  It will take that current video and save it to a separate folder.  On cameras without this feature, retrieving the video is more difficult.  Without this feature you have to comb through all the videos to find the one you are looking for.  You also have to remember to do this before the video overwrites when the memory is full.  The event/lock button puts the video where it will be saved for a longer period of time.  On most dashcams this folder only overwrites footage when that folder is full with event videos.

  1. Dashcams with Apps

Many newer dashcams have an app that is downloadable on your phone.  This allows you to connect your phone to the dashcam via wifi.  This allows you to download, edit or share the video easily.   Without an app, you may have to remove the sd card from the dashcam and retrieve it using a pc, laptop or tablet.   This method can be a hassle and also be more time consuming.

  1. High quality video

We recommend getting a dashcam with high quality video to make it easier to get a license plate.  Not all dashcams can easily capture the license plate of a driver.  Even newer high quality dashcams can experience trouble capturing plates at certain distances, speeds or weather conditions.  This is why getting a high quality dashcam can make the difference when replying on a dashcam to record the license plate.
