Driver re-evaluation programs

Driver re-evaluation program

A driver re-evaluation program is a program many states have where the Motor vehicle agency may require a driver to undergo an evaluation of their driving Skills.  It typically involves a driving test, to verify if they are still able to operate a motor vehicle. A Driver re-evaluation request can be filed when there is a question about their physical or cognitive condition, reported driving incidents, or other factors that could impact their safety on the road.

What is needed when submitting a request for a driver to be re-evaluated?

There needs to be a reasonable cause for a motor vehicle agency to contact someone for a driving re-evaluation.  Some reasons include a driving incident or behavior which raises concern either by a doctor, a police officer, or someone who has observed the driver.

Are there other reasons a driver can be re-evaluated?

Some states can ask a driver to be re-examined if they have had a number of accidents within a certain period of time.

Can these programs be used to report an unsafe driver using dashcam footage?

These programs are designed for people who personally know the driver and have concerns about their driving due to medical concerns or age. They may also be able to report other drivers as well.    You may attempt to contact these programs to show them your video and tell them your concern.
